Digital Museums Canada launches online course for museum and heritage professionals

Creating Engaging Online Experiences: An Introduction for Museums and Heritage Organizations is a free, two-hour, non-credit course available through the DMC website. The course is intended for museum and heritage professionals who wish to advance or deepen their knowledge about best practices in user experience, accessibility, and audience engagement. Course content includes the role of digital in museums and heritage organizations, and its value in reaching and engaging audiences when creating user-centered online projects. Participants will also learn about DMC, and gain a general understanding of the role of digital in museums and heritage organizations. The course, available online now, was built with the support of PowerED™ by AU.

"Digital Museums Canada funding and expertise exist to help increase the digital capacity of museum and heritage organizations from coast to coast to coast," said Leah Resnick, Director of DMC. "We are pleased to support new and existing museum professionals in their efforts to learn more about the value of, and pathways to, engaging audiences through online content."

"This collaboration aligns with Athabasca University's commitment to open-access and digitally enabled lifelong learning," said Dr. Shabnam Inanloo Dailoo, Associate Professor and Director of the Heritage Resources Management program at AU. "This flexible and interactive course is accessible to all learners. In addition to professionals and volunteers, students in museums and heritage programs can also benefit from this learning opportunity and further explore the application of digital technologies in museums and heritage organizations."

DMC particularly encourages museums planning to apply for funding through the annual Call for Proposals to take the course to help strengthen their applications. The Call for Proposals provides eligible organizations with up to $250,000 for an online project.

The 2022 Call for Proposals deadline is December 1, 2022. For more information, visit digitalmuseums.ca.
